Among them, for example, cuckoo's tears, heartwort, wild orchid, dog tongues. The twin tubers of the herb were used to prepare a love potion, as well as to increase libido. A pair of stalks and roots was used by peasants in various ancient rituals. People also believed that if you bathe during sunrise in the reservoirs around which this grass blooms, you can find health, beauty and youth.

There are many legends associated with the cuckoo's tears. Perhaps the saddest story tells of a mother who was offended by her ungrateful sons. The woman got soaked in the rain, after which she fell ill and fell ill, but her children left her without even giving her water. By evening, tired from playing and walking, the boys returned home, where they saw a miracle. The sick mother, who no longer wanted to stay with her children, turned into a bird and flew out the window, shedding bitter tears as she did so. Since then, it has been believed that in the place where the cuckoo's tears fall, the jatrach will sprout.

Jatricum

From Ottoman times to the present day, a drink called salep has been made in Turkey from the root flour of this herb. In addition, the flour is part of the Turkish ice cream "Marash".

Wild orchid has long been famous for its beneficial properties. In alternative medicine, there are many recipes that are effective for treating diseases of the stronger half of mankind, but for the weaker sex and children this product is also valuable.

The herb is in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and other countries in Europe and the United States.

Chemical composition

Each element of the plant is characterized by many valuable components that can be used for therapeutic purposes.

  1. For example, the shoots and leaves of the barnacle contain glycosides, pectin, carotene and bitterness.
  2. The root part of the culture is characterized by the presence of chemical compounds such as sucrose, essential oils, starch and mucus.
  3. The underground part of the herb is characterized by a richer composition, for this reason and is most often included in the recipes of unrecognized medicine.
  4. In addition, here you can find dextrin, pentosans, resins, protein substances, organic acids, various vitamins, a number of mineral elements.

What does it look like and where does it grow?

The orchid is a perennial crop of the Orchid family. The stems of the grass are erect, up to 60-70 cm in length. Leaflets are narrow, colored dark green. Some varieties are distinguished by the presence of purple spots on them.

In April, the plant develops spike-like inflorescences on which there are many small cherry-colored buds. It blooms for about ten days. This entire period is accompanied by a pleasant honey odor. At the moment when the flowers fade, the seed bolls develop.

The root of the wild orchid is tuberous. As noted above, it is this component of the culture most often found in the recipes of folk healers.

The herb grows in cold and temperate climates. It is found almost all over the Russian Federation, with the exception of the Arctic. The main part of the species prefers damp areas and brushwood. Since the plant is characterized by the ability to cumulate valuable substances in the tuberous part, some types can survive even in an arid region, as well as in harsh mountain areas. For example, with the onset of hot weather, the Provenza cordate is dormant, and in the fall it awakens again and begins to grow. Each grass variety has different preferences for soil composition, but they all dislike light-loving and moisture-loving neighboring plants.

Types

There are more than 60 known varieties of salep. Compared to other groups, the Orchid family is younger, so there are some difficulties with classification due to the fact that there are some hybrids.

The most popular species of orchid:

  1. Male. It is up to 0.5 m in height and has purple spots on the base. Leaves are broadly lanceolate in shape, about 15 cm long and up to 2-3 cm wide. The buds of this variety are small, the color of the petals varying from light purple to purple. There are up to 500 flowers concentrated on the spike-like inflorescences.
  2. Spotted. Particularly appreciated by gardeners for its decorative characteristics. Differs from its brethren by the presence of dark spots that decorate the lower part of the leaves.
  3. Monkey's. It is so named because of the peculiar lower lip of the flower, similar in shape to the calf of a small monkey.
  4. Helmet-shaped. It can be up to 0.6 m tall. Dense spikes appear from late spring to early summer, on which many flowers are concentrated. The upper five parts of the perianth are arranged to resemble a knight's helmet. At the same time, the narrow lip is divided into lobes.
  5. Purple. Is the tallest variety. The flower is characterized by a powerful stem, which is up to 1.2 cm thick. The height of the plant is 0,7 m. The light pink lip of the flower stands out against the dark purple top helmet.

Gathering and storage

The culture is propagated both by seeds and by dividing rhizomes. The first option is quite complicated. It is much easier to plant a small tuber. The flower grows well in moist, but not waterlogged soil. Prefers to grow in penumbra, does not like the use of mineral as well as fresh organic fertilizers. It is best to grow the crop away from other grasses, as it will not grow well in mixed beds. When dividing the tubers, you should take the smallest of them. In a separate hole, it is necessary to put some soil from the mother root.

The collection of medicinal plant material is carried out at the end of flowering, when there is still a flower stalk. At the same time, it is necessary to dig out young, juicy root tubers of light yellow color. Then wash them thoroughly, and then put them in boiling water for a few minutes. After that, string the raw material and send it to dry in a darkened, well-ventilated room. If you use a special device for drying, the temperature should not exceed 50 degrees.

Fully dried underground part of the plant loses its bitterness and unpleasant smell. Ready raw materials are stored in hermetically sealed containers. The shelf life is 5 years.
